Historic preservation is never just about saving buildings. It is about investing in the social fabric of our communities, honoring cultural identity—especially of those who are under-represented—and telling the true stories of the past to help enrich our present and improve our future. In 2024, CRS deepened its impact across these areas, advancing our mission through strategic growth, community-centered initiatives, and hard-won accomplishments.

Through our Heritage Home ProgramSM, we helped thousands of homeowners care for their older and historic houses and issued 222 loans across Northeast Ohio valued at over $13.2 million. The growing demand for this program reflects a deep and widespread commitment to preserving affordable housing and the architectural legacy of our neighborhoods.

We also advanced critical preservation efforts across the region, with a special focus on African American cultural heritage sites and historically significant Black churches. From the exterior restoration of Cory United Methodist Church to new Civil Rights Trail markers, we saw how preservation can uplift both places and people.

Obtaining title to the long-vacant Dall-Mays Houses and the continued stewardship of the Newton Avenue Houses marked major steps forward in our work to bring historic properties back to life. Our partnerships and programs continued to expand, from educational outreach and public events to deeper community connections.

As always, our work is rooted in the belief that historic places matter – and that preserving them is a shared responsibility. We look forward to continuing this important work together.
