Cleveland Restoration Society invites its members to a SNOOP! tour at The Bell Apartments.
Members are invited to tour 45 Erieview Plaza, now The Bell Apartments, with Architect Randy Doi, of Sandvick Architects, to see up-close the adaptive reuse of the sleek Ohio Bell headquarters.
The building is a contributing resource to the Erieview Historic District, which was listed to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021. The district’s period of significance spans between 1948 and 1983, and the area encompasses Cleveland’s only urban renewal project that focused on the city’s central business district.
Adapting the building for residential living proved challenging. What made the historic office building unique and desirable in 1983 was the creation of very deep, open office environments, particularly at the northern curvilinear façade. To create residential living units which conversely need shallow unit configurations that will bring light into living spaces, large borrowed-light windows were placed in living rooms to extend natural light into interior bedrooms.
We’ll start the tour in the lobby, reimagined from a monumental corporate space to a more comfortable and inviting residential community space with carefully selected artwork and lighting.
Parking details will be provided in the confirmation email the day before the event.
